DIY Bathroom Scrub

DIY Bathroom Scrub

Making your own natural cleaning supplies is not only cost effective, but it reduces the toxic chemicals inside the house. The EPA says “air inside the average home is 2 to 5 times more polluted than the air outside, largely due to toxic household cleaners and pesticides.” Yuck. The same space where we cook, snuggle with our kiddos and sleep. A study by the Environmental Working Group found more than 200 chemicals in newborn infant cord blood. Which means it is impacting us. Chemicals in the home may also contribute to allergies. Okay, back to the recipe!

This recipe is great for scrubbing sinks, tubs, showers, whatever needs scrubbing. And guess what…it’s okay for you to breath it and clean without gloves!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 3 T. castile soap (I like Dr. Bronner’s)
  • 1 T. white vinegar
  • 15 drops Orange essential oil
  • 15 drops Tea Tree essential oil
  • 10 drops Peppermint essential oil

Directions:

Mix baking soda, castile soap, and white vinegar in a glass container. Then add essential oils and stir. The recipe will make a thick paste. If you want it to be a little thinner, just add more castile soap. To use it, just put a little on your sponge and scrub, scrub!

If you make a large quantity ahead of time and your scrub texture gets too hard after a few weeks, just add a bit more castile soap. Here’s a link to pin this Aromahead Institute recipe for later.
