Children’s Chest Rub

Children’s Chest Rub

A soothing chest rub can be just what you need for a little one. But I don’t want any of the toxic ingredients rubbed on my littles. I love this recipe from Mommypotamus. And I love her blog in general, if you haven’t checked her out! The recipe provides different options to make it safely, depending on the age of your kiddos.

Recipe for children ages 6 months – 2 years (For inhalation only, not application)

  • 2 drops Thyme or Lavender essential oil
  • 2 drops Frankincense essential oil
  • 3 drops Cedarwood or Tea Tree essential oil
  • 3 drops Orange or Tangerine essential oil

Diffuse oils as needed or make an inhaler for on-the-go.

Recipe for children ages 3-5 years (1% dilution)

  • 1 drop Thyme or Lavender essential oil
  • 1 drop Frankincense essential oil
  • 2 drops Cedarwood or Tea Tree essential oil
  • 2 drops Orange or Tangerine essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons carrier oil like olive, almond or coconut, or the basic salve recipe at the bottom of the page

Recipe for children ages 6-9 (2-3% dilution)

  • 2-3 drops Thyme or Lavender essential oil
  • 2-3 drop Frankincense essential oil
  • 4-5 drops Cedarwood or Tea Tree essential oil
  • 4-5 drops Orange or Tangerine essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons carrier oil like olive, almond or coconut, or the basic salve recipe at the bottom of this post

Basic Salve Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon plus 1½ teaspoons unrefined shea butter
  • 1½ teaspoons coconut oil

Instructions:

In a double boiler (or a stainless steel bowl set in side a pot of boiling water), gently melt shea butter and coconut oil. As soon as the mixture is completely melted, remove it from heat and stir in the essential oils. Transfer the mixture to a container with a tight fitting lid and store in a cool area when not in use. This recipe is just for one ounce, but you can double or triple to make more.
