Dishwasher Cubes

Dishwasher Cubes

Homemade dishwasher cubes are an easy way to eliminate toxic chemicals from the home AND save money. The cost adds up when you are doing dishes for an entire family, especially for the convenient little dishwasher pods. To make these little guys at home instead, you will need…

  • 1/4 cup washing soda
  • 1/4 cup Borax
  • 4 T. lemon juice
  • 4 drops lemon essential oil
  • Ice cube trays

Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. Squeeze fresh lemons and add 4 T. of lemon juice in a separate bowl. Add lemon EO to lemon juice and mix. Next, add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. It will bubble and fizz, which is normal. The mixture should be damp but not too wet. Use a tablespoon to measure the mixture in to ice cube trays. Make sure you don’t fill to the top or you may not be able to fit the cubes in to your dishwasher compartment! (TIP – If you don’t have an ice cube tray or the shape won’t fit your soap compartment in the dishwasher, try simple using your measuring spoon to shape them.) Let them sit overnight to dry and harden.

Here is the recipe from OolaLavender if you want to pin it for later.  If you are looking for a Borax-free recipe, try this one from happymoneysaver.com but substitute lemon juice instead of the lemonade mix.
